MathType has three important accessibility capabilities. First of all, MathType can be used as an add-on to Microsoft Word to enable students with hand writing or mobility issues to create math equations with a computer, either via the keyboard, mouse, or with a variety of adaptive mouse tools. Secondly, MathType can be used to create accessible math content via MathType's MathPage function. The resulting web document can then be read with any MathML-enabled screen reader or assistive technology application.

The Signing Math Dictionary (SMD) is one in a series of illustrated, interactive 3D sign language dictionaries and pictionaries. The SMD is designed for grade 4-8 students who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing and use American Sign Language (ASL) or Signed English (SE) in the classroom. The SMD supports access to standards-based math content among elementary and middle school students and contains 705 math terms and will link to definitions in other dictionaries and pictionaries from the series. Hey Math is a web-based, supplemental K-12 math program. The program includes demonstrations of concepts, practice exercises and games in a variety of topics at each grade level. Teachers can use the program for whole class demonstrations of concepts or assign exercises and reinforcement activities to individual students. Teachers can monitor student progress for each grade-level topic.

In the 2000/2001 school year, the Moore, OK Independent School District conducted a thorough study aimed at understanding the effectiveness of the Cognitive Tutor Algebra I program on students in their junior high school system. To allow the most rigorous test of the effectiveness of this course, the study was conducted as a true experiment, with students randomly assigned to either the Cognitive Tutor Algebra I course or a traditional Algebra I course. To control for teacher effects, some teachers taught both traditional and Cognitive Tutor courses.

This study compared learning for fifth grade students in two math homework conditions. The paper-and-pencil condition represented traditional homework, with review of problems in class the following day. The Web-based homework condition provided immediate feedback in the form of hints on demand and step-by-step scaffolding. We analyzed the results for students who completed both the paper-and-pencil and the Web-based conditions.

Classworks is a web-based instructional software that provides interactive lessons, customized learning and assessment in K-12 Math, Reading, and Language Arts. Elementary Science lessons are also available. Classworks units are based on state standards and offer interactive instruction through a multi-sensory approach that includes voice, pop-up text, audio support, video, photographs, artist drawings, and animated clips. The multiple modalities may be helpful for those with limited English proficiency or learning disabilities, or as a Response to Intervention.
