Cosmo's Play and Learn™ software is a family of educational and computer games that aim to entertain children of developmental ages 2-to-8 years and teach math skills. WordTalk is a free plug-in developed for use with all versions of Microsoft Word (from Word 97 upwards), which may help people with reading and writing difficulties use Microsoft Word more effectively. It will speak the text of the document and will highlight it as it goes. It contains a talking dictionary to help decide which word spelling is most appropriate. It sits in a user's toolbar and is configurable, allowing users to adjust the highlight colors, the voice and the rate of speed of the speech.
WriteOnline is an online word processing application for students. Users log on to the WriteOnline website, and can access word prediction features, text-to-speech, and other writing tools from any computer. Each student gets his or her personal online folders as part of the WriteOnline subscription, and they can save documents either online or to their own computer. Students' user preferences are automatically stored for them online, so the program starts up as they want it every time, on any computer.
OnScreen is an on-screen keyboard that allows the user to enter text into any application. OnScreen includes WordComplete, a word completion program that may help students speed up their typing. WordComplete is also available separately.
Use these programs to support planning and organization. Kidspiration is the younger-child friendly version of Inspiration which is appropriate for intermediate grades through adults. Both programs provide graphical webbing and outlining tools with text-to-speech support for review of plans or outlines. Outlines can be exported in several forms for transcription.
