BBC Science Simulations 2 provides opportunities for early elementary students to interact with seven virtual science investigations. Students can observe how shadows change over the course of a day, investigate which of four materials is the best thermal insulator, and much more. Students can develop their understanding of fair testing by controlling variables on screen and can see instant results by selecting to view a table or graph alongside the animation. A "Questions" section with full narration provides ideas for investigations that students can complete independently.
BBC Science Simulations 3 was designed to enhance science investigation skills for upper elementary students. Virtual experiments exploring varying topics such as plant growth and and electrical circuits allow teachers and students to experience a wide range of phenomena in ways and at speeds that would be difficult to achieve in the classroom. The "Questions" portion of the software includes ideas for exploration. Students can manipulate a variety of variables and instantly observe their effects.

Classworks is a web-based instructional software that provides interactive lessons, customized learning and assessment in K-12 Math, Reading, and Language Arts. Elementary Science lessons are also available. Classworks units are based on state standards and offer interactive instruction through a multi-sensory approach that includes voice, pop-up text, audio support, video, photographs, artist drawings, and animated clips. The multiple modalities may be helpful for those with limited English proficiency or learning disabilities, or as a Response to Intervention.
The challenge many teachers face is how to incorporate new technology into their classrooms that strengthens classroom learning by capitalizing on students' media literacies. Blogs, a new and innovative technological tool, can be used in math and science classrooms to support student learning by capitalizing on students' interests and familiarity with on-line communication. This study explores the emerging blogging practices of one high school mathematics teacher and his class to explore issues of intent, use, and perceived value.
The Technology Enhanced Elementary and Middle School Science II project (TEEMSS), funded by the National Science Foundation, produced 15 inquiry-based instructional science units for teaching in grades 3-8. Each unit uses computers and probeware to support students' investigations of real-world phenomena using probes (e.g., for temperature or pressure) or, in one case, virtual environments based on mathematical models. TEEMSS units were used in more than 100 classrooms by over 60 teachers and thousands of students.
Modern technology provides increased access to math and science educational instructional materials, media, and laboratory activities for blind students. Five projects supported by the National Science Foundation are described. One of these is a rigorous evaluation by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) of the value of audio description of science programs, which featured more than 100 blind viewers. Results of the study clearly demonstrate that blind viewers understand and retain information from science videos far better when audio descriptions are provided.
