Engaging the text: Strategy instruction in a computer-supported reading environment for struggling readers

This study field-tested Thinking Reader in middle schools with struggling readers. Thinking Reader is a computer-supported digital text reproduction of popular trade books, embedded with research-based comprehension strategies and supports. The testing revealed that students who were taught in classrooms with the Thinking Reader made more gains on reading achievement tests than students taught comprehension strategies without Thinking Reader.
